How to Troubleshoot a Kirby G3

The Kirby G3 is a traditional, dust-bag style vacuum cleaner. As with most Kirby vacuums, the G3 comes with a "Tech Drive" that users can turn on and off to provide additional movement assistance while operating the machine. The G3 comes with a long power cord and uses disposable dust bags to collect dirt and dust suctioned up by the vacuum. Sold on the Internet and through the Kirby Company, troubleshooting issues with the G3 can help users to identify the source of a problem they may be having with the vacuum cleaner.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the power cord if the Kirby G3 is not operating when turned "On." Replace or reset the circuit breaker or fuse if needed. Remove other appliances from the circuit to reduce the power supply load.

    • 2

Unzip the dust bag compartment and pull out the current dust bag if there is poor suction or the vacuum is not operating as expected. Discard the current dust bag and connect a new one to the nozzle inside the compartment. Push firmly to connect, tuck the bag inside the compartment and zip to close.

    • 3

Step on the "D" pedal on the vacuum base if the vacuum cleaner is difficult to move. This sets the vacuum into "Drive" mode for assisted movement. Step on the "N" pedal to return the vacuum to "Neutral" mode when the vacuum is not in use.

    • 4

Disconnect power to the vacuum and inspect the nozzles and hose if the vacuum has a new dust bag but is not suctioning well. Remove any obstructions. Look inside the cloth bag at the nozzle connection for possible blockage and at the "mini emptor," which is located inside the bottom of the bag and is a plastic piece. Clean all parts as needed.

Disconnect power to the vacuum and lower the handle if the brushes are not rotating as expected. Cut away any fibers, string or debris from the brushes using a pair of scissors. Return the vacuum to upright position and restore power.
