How to Get Resin Out of a Metal Pipe

These days smoking tobacco out of a water pipe or hand help pipe is popular. Hookahs are popping up in restaurants around the country offering patrons a chance to smoke a fruity tobacco blend. Constant pipe use means resin build up in the pipe stems and/or bowls. Reducing the amount of resin inside a metal pipe allows the smoke to pass freely and consistently. Depending on depth and accumulation, cleaning a metal pipe can be light maintenance or heavy duty scrubbing.

Instructions

    • 1

Disassemble the metal pipe by unscrewing and separating the different pieces. In most cases a metal pipe comes apart making the process easier. If the pipe does not disassemble skip to Step Two.

    • 2

Push bristled pipe cleaners through the stem of the pipe to remove surface or loose resign. Repeat the process until the pipe cleaner comes out resign free. For larger pipes such as hookahs a bristled bottle washer brush works well.

    • 3

Scrape the insides of the bowl and stem with a metal scraping tool. Scrapers are available at specialty stores and cigar outlets. Any small metal stick with a small flat end will work.

Boil a pan of hot water on the stove and drop the dissembled pipe inside. Boiling the pipe will remove the remaining resign from the insides. Use a pair of tongs to move the pipe pieces around the bottom of the pan to help loosen the resin.

Remove the pipe pieces from the water bath using the tongs and place them on a clean towel to cool and dry.Reassemble the pipe for use.
