How to Clean an Oil-Fired Furnace in a Mobile Home

Oil-fired furnaces exist in both traditional homes and mobile homes with little to no difference between them. In order to keep your home warm throughout the winter the furnace must be properly maintained. Dust, dirt and oil buildup cause the furnace to work less efficiently if proper care isn't taken. Cleaning the oil-fired furnace in your mobile home twice a year, in the spring and fall, keeps it in working order for winter.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the oil-fired furnace in your mobile home and allow it to cool. Open the maintenance hatch to the furnace.

    • 2

Locate the oil filter in the motor and remove it. Replace the filter with a new one.

    • 3

Wipe down any excess oil buildup on the burner motor and vacuum the motor to remove dust. Drip three to four drops of lubricating oil into the burner motor's oil ports.

    • 4

Locate the draft regulator in the flue and vacuum it off. Wipe off any oil buildup from it as well with the cloth.

    • 5

Vacuum around the oil fired furnace to prevent dust and dirt from clogging it. Dust the thermostats in each room with a small paintbrush to keep them in working order.
