How to Clean a Weber Pit

Barbecue season calls for hamburgers and fresh vegetables roasting over a Weber charcoal grill. Enjoy your grill in mint condition by taking the proper steps to protect the grill bars and pit. The grill bar may be loaded with food remnants from a previous cookout and the pit piled with burned-out charcoal. Keeping up on the maintenance will ensure a longer-lasting Weber and better-tasting food.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the cooking grill using an oven mitt after it has cooled down to a warm temperature. Gently scrape the grime off the grill using a brass grill brush (once the grill cools, it will be harder to scrape). Use a wool pad with warm, soapy water, applying just mild pressure.

    • 2

Rinse off the soapy water with a hose or sink sprayer.

    • 3

Empty the ash in the bottom of the pit into a trash bag. The pit does not need to be cleaned after each use but the old ash should be removed.

    • 4

Scrub the inside of the pit after the ash and charcoal are removed and the Weber is completely cool. To clean the pit, soak a washcloth or sponge in warm, soapy water and clean. Avoid using a wool pad on the pit because it will scratch the finish of the porcelain enamel. Rinse with a hose.

    • 5

Wipe off the lid of the Weber with a damp cloth. Allow the pit to dry completely before using the Weber again.
