Plastic Container Styles

Whether at home, work, or the store, you have no doubt encountered a dizzying array of plastic containers. These containers are available in myriad sizes, shapes and colors. Some are best suited to store household products, such as cleansers, while others work better for perfumes and cosmetics. Some of the more common styles are likely in one of your cabinets right now.
  1. Boston Round Bottles

    • Many cosmetic samples are available in what are called Boston round bottles. These plastic containers are practically unbreakable, resist cracks and are available in a wide range of colors. Boston round bottles have a narrow mouth, flat bottom and round body. In addition, manufacturers make them with various caps, such as dome caps, aluminum caps, sprayers and lotion-pump caps. Common items in these containers include hair care products, samples and body lotions.

    Jugs

    • Stores carry a variety of items in plastic jugs that often come with a handle. Common products available in jugs include bug spray, super-sized shampoo containers and household cleansers. They are often topped with child resistant caps, industrial pumps and pump dispensers. You will find them in diverse colors such as black, clear and frost.

    Cosmo Round Plastic Bottles

    • Cosmo round plastic bottles look similar to the Boston rounds, especially with the flat bottoms and curved tops. However, these bottles are thinner than Boston rounds. Common caps include sprayers and twist caps.

    Pharmaceutical Rounds

    • The most common place you will see pharmaceutical rounds are at the pharmacy or the medication section of a store. They generally have child-resistant caps, twist caps or aluminum caps. This type of container offers a larger opening. Common items found in pharmaceutical rounds include vitamins, mineral and herbal supplements, and pain relievers.

    Oval Plastic Bottles

    • Oval bottles generally contain perfumes, body sprays, lotions and liquid soaps. The Cosmo oval plastic bottom is defined by a wide curved top with a slightly tapered bottom. The Naples oval looks similar to the Cosmo, but tapers near the bottom. It usually comes with either a spray top or a round push top.
