Instructions

    • 1

Clean the grill grates every time you barbecue. Heat up the grill so the gates get hot, then scrub with a wire grill brush.

    • 2

Clean the grease traps after each use. Grease can catch on fire easily and needs to be cleaned from all surfaces of the grill. Pour the grease in a heat-proof container and discard.

    • 3

Scrub the gas burners, otherwise known as flavorizer bars, with a grill brush. Heating the grill incinerates any food or debris, but clean the bars to keep them in good condition.

    • 4

Wipe the warming racks and knobs with warm, soapy water. Use fine steel wool to remove tough burned-on debris. Avoid pressing too hard because you can scratch the porcelain. Rinse the areas with clean water.

    • 5

Wipe the exterior of the grill with warm, soapy water. Avoid using strong cleaners or abrasive sponges that can scratch the surface. Rinse the grill with clean water to remove the soap residue.

    • 6

Dry the inside and outside of the grill with a towel.

    • 7

Apply a waterproof grill cover over the gas grill when you are not using it. Sunlight and weather can cause the grill to rust.

    • 8

Extensively clean the gas grill two or three times during the grilling season by taking it apart. Always disconnect the propane tank before cleaning the grill. Soak the grates and burners in warm, hot soapy water. Scrub on the grates and burners with a wire brush.

Disassemble the burner assembly once or twice a year to clean the venturi tubes, which mix air and gas and feed the burners, according to Lowe's. Follow the instructions that came with your grill to ensure you take it apart properly. Always disconnect the propane tank before you begin. Clean venturi tubes with warm, soapy water. Use a wire brush, toothpicks or pipe cleaners to clean the holes in the tubes. Dry the tubes before you replace them on the grill.
