Cordless Sweeper Pros & Cons

Cordless vacuums and sweepers have become increasingly popular in recent years as consumers seek alternatives to their heavy, corded vacuum cleaners. There are numerous models of cordless sweepers and vacuums that vary in weight, power, battery life and portability. Nevertheless, while more convenient than corded vacuums, cordless sweepers have several limitations.
  1. Pro: Portability

    • The greatest advantage to cordless sweepers is their ability to reach spaces that would otherwise be impossible for plug-in vacuum cleaners because of the distance to the nearest power outlet. Cordless sweepers allow you to clean virtually anywhere there is a flat surface. Furthermore, as cordless sweepers and vacuums are generally smaller and more compact, they are often able to reach underneath furniture, inside narrow spaces and even in your car.

    Pro: Better for Quick Clean-ups

    • Cordless sweepers and vacuums also save you from having to lug a heavy vacuum cleaner across the house, untangle the cord and plug it in, for what might only be a five-minute cleaning job. Cordless sweepers are a quick and effective alternative to more powerful vacuum models when dealing with minor cleaning.

    Con: Less Powerful

    • Cordless sweepers may be ideal for small cleaning jobs, but they are woefully inadequate when it comes to heavy-duty vacuuming. As cordless vacuums run on batteries and are designed to be light and portable, they tend to have considerably smaller motors than their tethered counterparts. The result is less sucking power and less ability to pick up small particles embedded deep within the carpet.

    Con: Battery Life

    • A similar consequence to being battery-powered is the necessity of recharging. Depending on the model, you may only get 20 minutes of power out of your cordless vacuum. This makes cordless models unsuitable for larger cleaning jobs, even if a powerful vacuum is not required.
