How to Remove Baked on Food From a Crock-Pot

If tonight's easy-to-make Crock-Pot meal has left behind a hard-to-remove mess, don't fret. With a little soap and elbow grease, you can make your slow cooker squeaky clean again. Crock-Pots cook food, such as stews, soups and sauces, slowly and over a long period of time. The slow cooking process may result in a baked-on food mess. Since Crock-Pot slow cookers are constructed of ceramic, use a light touch when removing built-up food to preserve the quality of the appliance.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the Crock-Pot off and unplug it from its power source. Allow the slow cooker and food inside to cool to room temperature.

    • 2

Throw any leftover food away or transfer it to a storage container.

    • 3

Fill half of the Crock-Pot with hot water. Add a few squirts of gentle dish washing soap; avoid using abrasive cleaning solutions, which may harm the Crock-Pot's interior. Use your hand or a spoon to swirl the water to create soap bubbles.

    • 4

Let the Crock-Pot rest for 30 minutes to allow the hot, soapy water to break down any baked-on food.

    • 5

Scrub the Crock-Pot's sides and bottom with a cloth, sponge or soft-bristled brush until the baked-on food is loosened. Pour the soapy water into a sink and rinse the Crock-Pot's interior with clean water.
