How to Remove Burned-on Plastic From a Smooth Top Range

Leaving a plastic lid or a bread bag on the surface of a smooth stove top can result in a mess. Melted plastic may seem impossible to remove, but you can safely scrape it off without having to replace your stove top. If you do not remove the melted plastic, you will have to deal with smoke and fumes each time you use the range.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the stove burners. Allow the range to cool down completely before you try to clean it.

    • 2

Wipe the smooth top with antibacterial dish soap and warm water. Cleaning the stove top will remove any dirt and debris that may get in the way while you remove the melted plastic.

    • 3

Gently scrape off the burned plastic with a razor blade. Hold the blade at a 30- to 45-degree angle. Work the blade under the hardened plastic carefully to prevent scratching the glass. Apply slight pressure to the razor blade to scrape off the plastic.
