Eureka Altima 2961AVZ Vacuum Maintenance

The Eureka 2961AVZ Altima is an upright vacuum cleaner with a removable dust cup, foam and filter frame, self-cleaning duster, headlight, HEPA filter, height adjustment capability, on-board tools and a furniture and stair tool. Maintaining the vacuum cleaner properly will help prolong the overall life of the unit and keep it working efficiently.
  1. Filters

    • The different filters on the Eureka Altima require regular maintenance. Turn the filter screen clockwise to remove it from the bottom of the dust cup on a weekly basis. Rinse it with warm water and let it dry before returning it to the dust cup. You will also want to remove the foam and cloth filter, located inside the dust cup, on a weekly basis. Remove the filters and the frame from the cup and wash the filters well with water. Dry them thoroughly before returning them to the unit. Every six months, step on the handle release pedal and lower the vacuum handle. Grasp the HEPA filter cover and turn it counterclockwise to pull it out. Replace the HEPA filter with a new one, available through Eureka.

    Brush Roll

    • Turn off and unplug your Eureka vacuum cleaner before checking the brush roll, which should be done on a regular basis. Lower the handle by stepping on the handle release pedal, then locate and remove the two screws on the front of the brush roll cover. Set the brush roll cover aside and inspect the brush roll for signs of damage. If there are long strings caught around the brush roll, use scissors to remove the fibers.

    Belt

    • While the brush roll cover is removed, take out the brush roll and inspect the belt. Roll the belt slightly by hand to ensure it rolls easily and look for any cracks, splits or other evidence of damage. Contact Eureka for a new belt if necessary and replace it. Return the brush roll into position and turn it twice, once the new belt is in place, to center the belt. Return the brush roll cover and secure it with the two screws.

    Possible Blockages

    • Check your Eureka vacuum periodically for potential blockages in the hose and nozzle. Turn off and unplug the vacuum cleaner and pull the hose out from the hose retainer. Flex the hose to loosen and remove any obstructions. Remove the brush from the hose connector and look inside for blockages. Remove any obstructions and reconnect the hose at both ends.
