How to Put a Battery on a Dyson Animal

The Dyson DC16 and DC31 Animal model vacuum cleaners operate by battery power. While this feature increases the vacuum's transportability, it also means recharging or even replacing the battery periodically. Depending on model and use, expect a Dyson hand-held to operate at full power for 6 to 10 minutes. Installing the battery properly, and charging it as needed, allows the Dyson Animal to clean with maximum effectiveness.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the Dyson Animal hand-held vacuum cleaner. For the DC16, slide the battery along the tracks at the base of the vacuum cleaner handle until it "clicks" into place. For the DC31, place the battery directly beneath the vacuum cleaner handle and push it straight up into the handle until it "clicks" into place.

    • 2

Plug the Dyson Animal battery charger into the nearest available electric socket when you need to recharge the battery.

    • 3

Attach the charger to the battery. For the DC16, slide charger unit along the base of the battery until it's firmly in place. For the DC31, plug the charger directly into the backside of the battery. The DC31 battery can also be charged independently of the vacuum. The DC16 battery, however, must be attached to the vacuum when charging.

    • 4

Allow the battery to fully charge. Dyson recommends a charging time of 3 hours for the DC16 and 3 1/2 hours for the DC31.

    • 5

Disconnect the charger from the battery once charging is complete.
