How to Troubleshoot the Bissell PowerSteamer PowerLifter

The Bissell PowerSteamer PowerLifter cleaning machine makes it easy to clean carpets and other flooring. The unit features a PowerBrush that enhances its performance over traditional carpet cleaners. The brush is designed to lift the dirt from deep in the carpet, up to the top where it can be removed easily. The Bissell PowerSteamer uses a mixture of cleaning fluid and water to remove dirt and stains. If the machine is not operating properly, the manufacturer suggests several troubleshooting steps.

      Turn the power switch off. Check the water tank to make sure there is sufficient hot water if the unit will not spray during cleaning. Remove the tank and fill it with hot tap water.

      Inspect the water tank to make sure it is seated properly. Lift the handle and remove the water tank. Insert the tank into the machine and raise the handle to lock it in place.

      Examine the pump belt to make sure the belt is not broken. Locate the belt access door on the left side of the unit. Insert a flat-head screwdriver in the slot to open the door. Make sure the pump belt is still looped around the motor shaft. If the pump belt is broken, you will need to replace it.

      Check the water tank to make sure the dirty water container is not full. If the dirty water side is full, you will need to remove the water tank and empty the dirty water.

      Clean the lint screen to remove any dirt or debris that may be clogging the cleaning system. Remove the water tank from the base. Empty the water and remove the lint screen. Clean the lint screen with water to remove debris. Reinsert the lint screen. Fill the water tank with hot water. Insert the water tank into the base of the machine.
