How to Remove Decaying Smells From a Deep Freezer

Perhaps your freezer quit working or you had a power outage, and your perfectly frozen meat products thawed and filled your deep freezer with the smell of decay. Once you finish cleaning up the mess, the smell can still linger. While you may be tempted to slam the lid shut and never use it again, it is possible to clean the deep freezer and make the decaying smells turn into a distant memory.

Things You'll Need

  • 4 tbsp. baking soda
  • 1 quart warm water
  • Container
  • Spoon
  • Sponge
  • Cloth
  • 3 small bowls
  • 3 cups dry coffee grounds

Instructions

      Mix 4 tbsp. of baking soda and 1 quart of warm water in a container. Stir with a spoon to dissolve.

      Dip a sponge into the cleaning solution and wipe down the entire inside of the deep freezer. Wipe the residue out of the freezer with a clean damp cloth.

      Fill three bowls with fresh, dry coffee grounds and place them in the freezer. Close the freezer and allow them to stay there for approximately 48 hours.

      Open the freezer and remove the bowls of coffee grounds. Begin to use the freezer again.
