Before beginning any cleaning on the range, ensure the stove is turned off and that it has cooled to the touch since cooking. Fill the sink with hot water, adding in a mild liquid dish soap. Dip a sponge into the soapy water and wipe down the range top, burner grates, knobs and stainless steel face, recommends the Viking Range Corp. To prevent streaking on the stainless steel surfaces, use a clean, lint-free cloth to dry and polish the range. Doing this daily helps keep the stove free from stubborn messes and reduces the need for serious cleaning.
Occasionally, pots boil over and food becomes stuck on the range. To clean these stubborn messes, the Viking Range Corp. recommends using a fume-free, spray-on oven cleaner on burner grates and caps. To use oven cleaner, remove the burner grates and burner caps. Place them on newspaper outdoors and spray with oven cleaner. Allow the product to sit on the surfaces for one to two hours. Wipe the burner grates and caps down with hot, soapy water and dry with a lint-free cloth.
While the grates and caps are undergoing oven-cleaner treatment, clean any stubborn, stuck-on stains on the range's surface. Wipe down the surface with hot, soapy water to remove as much of the stuck-on stain as possible. If food, grease or other stains remain, Viking recommends using a soft scrubbing product to remove the stain. Wipe on the product and scrub down with a sponge. Rinse with hot water and dry with a lint-free rag. To prevent rusting, be sure the surface, burner grates and burner caps are sufficiently dry before reassembling.
Only use hot water to clean the range's knobs, control panels and face, as cleaning products may damage the electronic components or stain the surface. Wipe up any acidic substances such as lemon juice or tomatoes as soon as the spills occur, recommends Viking. The acidity in these products contributes to permanent stains on the stainless steel face. To increase the shine and polish of your range, fill a spray bottle with warm water. Spray down the face and dry with a micro-fiber cloth.
