What Floor Cleaners Can Be Used in a Hoover FloorMate?

The Hoover FloorMate is designed for use on hard floors, but includes many of the same features that the company's carpet cleaners, including rotating brushes, dual cleaning tanks, wide cleaning path and special options like a squeegee to dry floors quickly. The unit uses cleaning solution and water to clean floors but only the use of recommended cleaners is approved with the FloorMate. Using other types of cleaners or substances may invalidate the machine's warranty.
  1. Recommended Cleaner

    • Hoover recommends the use of the Hoover Hard Floor Detergent with the FloorMate unit. Squeeze the release button on the cleaning tank and remove it from the base unit, then remove the cap and turn it over. Fill with at least 2 oz. of Hoover Hard Floor Detergent and pour into the tank. Fill the rest of the tank with clean, warm water to the "Fill" line.

    Tile and Grout

    • When using the FloorMate for cleaning tile floors and grout, the company recommends the use of Hoover Tile & Grout Detergent. This detergent is meant to clean tiles without leaving a waxy residue and removes stains on the tile while brightening grout.

    Wood Floors

    • It is important to use specific cleaners when cleaning wood floors, as certain types of cleaners may leave a residue on wood floors or might even scratch or damage hardwood floors. The Hoover Wood Oil Soap is designed for use on hard wood floors, not laminate, and is safe for use in the FloorMate appliance.

    Multi Floors

    • Another type of detergent that is approved for use in a Hoover FloorMate is the company's multi-floor detergent, which can be used on wood floors, tile, laminate and other hard surfaces. As with the other Hoover cleaners, this detergent can be found at most home retail and hardware stores for purchase.
