How to Clean a Glass Cook Top of Baked-on Grease

A stove with a glass cook top can be a very attractive option when you're deciding on new kitchen appliances. That smooth cook top may pose a challenge, however, once you're faced with baked-on grease. Normal scrubbing methods such as scouring powder or pads cannot be used because they'll scratch the smooth glass cooking surface. Use the right products and methods to remove baked-on grease without scratching your glass cook top.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the glass cook top with water and a soft sponge to remove as much loose food debris as possible. Leave water on any stubborn pieces of food to soften, which will help in its removal.

    • 2

Wipe up any remaining water, then spread a circle of droplets of glass cook top cleaner around the area which has the baked-on grease. Use a plastic scrub pad to swirl the cleaner in a circular motion all over the grease stains. Push down on the scrubber to aid in the cleaning action.

    • 3

Rinse the glass cook top with a sponge and clear water to see if the grease has been removed. If some grease remains, place a small amount of glass cook top cleaner directly on the grease spots and allow it to soak in for about five minutes.

Hold a razor blade scraper at a 45-degree angle and push down on the blade hard enough to get it beneath the caked-on grease, but not so hard that you scratch the glass itself.

Clean the cook top with glass cook top cleaner and a plastic scrubber. Rinse the cook top with cool water and use paper towels to dry the surface.
