Remove the dust bin by pressing the release button located above the bin. You can find a diagram showing you where this release button is by using your Dyson manual. Use a damp cloth to wipe the outside of it. Then put the bin inside a garbage or shopping bag and close the bag around it. To release the dust, pull the trigger. To remove dust from the fine dust collector in the middle of the bin, you can shake or tap the bin. Let the dust settle in the bag before closing and removing the bin. Discard the bag and place the bin back on your machine. This way of emptying your dust bin will ensure that the minimum amount of dust is released into the air and is a good option for allergy sufferers.

Hold the dust bin over a garbage can and pull the trigger to release the dust directly into the wastebasket if you do not wish to use a bag. Shake the bin or tap the top and sides to get rid of excess dust in the fine dust collector and replace the bin in the vacuum. This method can be quicker than using a bag around the bin, but more dust will go into the air.

Clean the shroud when you notice dust building up on the insides of your dust bin that doesn't come off during the normal emptying process. To do this, empty the dust bin and make sure the clear base is open. Then you can wipe down the shroud with a cloth or dry brush. You can also clean out the clear bin by rinsing it with water. If you do this, make sure you don't use detergents and don't rinse or submerge any other part of the vacuum, such as the inner cyclone, shroud or cones. The clear bin should be completely dry before you place it back on the machine.

Clean the filter. Your pre-motor filter should be cleaned about every six months to remove the fine dust particles inside it. To remove the filter, press the release catch and pull it up out of its housing. Rinse the blue foam pad and yellow cage of the filter in cold water, then set them out to dry separately for 12 hours. Return them to the machine only when they are fully dry.
