My Fantom Fury Vacuum Does Not Suck Very Well

The Fantom Fury is a bagless upright vacuum cleaner. Instead of collecting dirt in a bag, the Fury uses a collection bin and separate filters to gather the debris and dust picked up by the cleaner. When the Fantom shows decreased suction, troubleshoot the machine to uncover the reason for its sluggish performance.
  1. Belt

    • The belt on the Fantom Fury transfers the motion of the motor to the brush roll. The brush roll sweeps the carpet to pick up surface dirt and debris while funneling all of the airflow into the Fury's intake. Check the belt to see if it is worn or broken. A worn belt will slip in the brush roll or motor shaft, causing the brush roll not to spin. Remove the screws on the bottom of the cleaning head plate then remove the plate. Pull the brush roll from the slots inside the cleaning head and remove the belt. Place a new belt onto the motor shaft and then onto the brush roll. Replace the brush roll into the slots inside the cleaning head. Replace the plate and screws on the bottom of the Fantom's cleaning head.

    Cleaning Head Intake

    • Check the rectangular intake inside the cleaning head. Dirt and dust can collect inside the intake to block airflow into the vacuum cleaner. Use a wire coat hanger to clean the intake. If the dust is too far up the intake, force it through with the hanger or a long screwdriver so that you can remove the obstruction from beneath the dirt collection bin.

    Hoses

    • Remove the hose from the back of the Fury by pressing the wand release button at the top and in back of the Fantom's handle. Look inside the hose to see if there is a collection of dust or string clogging the hose. Use the wire hanger to force the dust through the hose and out of the other side.

    Collection Bin Filters

    • Check the collection bin filters to ensure there is not a lot of dust and debris impeding the airflow. Grab the handle at the bottom of the bin and pull it away from the vacuum cleaner. Look in the bottom of the bin compartment and on the bottom of the bin itself to locate any debris. Clean the area with your fingers if necessary. Empty the collection bin if it is full.

    Fluff Trap

    • The Fantom Fury is equipped with a fluff trap for capturing dust, which may contribute to a loss in suction. The trap is located on the lower-right side of the vacuum's handle. Pull the trap door from the cleaner by hand. Clean the area with your fingers to remove the larger pieces of dust. Rinse the fluff trap with warm water and allow it to dry before replacing it inside the handle.
