How to Disassemble a Dyson DC17

A Dyson DC17 vacuum cleaner includes a host of removable parts. Some of these parts, such as the clear bin and filter, require removal for routine cleaning and servicing. Others, like the hose and U-bend assembly, may require inspection in the event of an obstructed passageway. In addition, disassembling certain parts of the machine allows for more compact storage or shipping. If you've got a coin handy, you'll be able to manage this.

Instructions

  1. Hose Assembly

    • 1

Open the wand cap. Raise the metal tube below the cap to its maximum height.

    • 2

Press the red wand hand button. Separate the handle and hose. Place the handle and the attached metal tube aside.

    • 3

Hold the base of the Dyson DC17 forward. Note the U-shaped tube, called the "U-bend assembly," directly below the hose. A slotted catch attaches the tube to the vacuum.

    • 4

Use a coin to turn the catch counter-clockwise. Remove the U-bend from the machine.

    Bin Assembly and Filter

    • 5

Press the catch on the Dyson DC17 bin handle. Remove the bin. If the bin contains debris, empty it into a garbage container.

    • 6

Press the catch on the back of the bin shroud. Separate the shroud. Set the entire bin assembly aside.

    • 7

Locate the filter housing at the top of the base of the Dyson DC17. Lift the clasp on the filter housing. Raise the filter housing and remove the filter.

    Brushbar Cover

    • 8

Lay the DC17 carefully on its backside.

    • 9

Note the three fasteners attaching the brushbar cover to the underside of the machine. Use a coin to turn each fastener counter-clockwise.

    • 10

Grab each side of the brushbar cover. Carefully detach the cover from the vacuum.
