How to Locate the Filter on a Dyson Vacuum Cleaner

Filters, which help keep a Dyson vacuum cleaner healthy and running, require periodic inspection and cleaning. Different models of Dyson have filters in different areas of the machine. Moreover, while filter care differs from one Dyson model to another, getting access to them requires no special knowledge or tools. Inspect the different points of your particular model of Dyson vacuum cleaner to access the filter.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the bin assembly release to remove the dirt bin and cyclone housing.

    • 2

Look for a latch on the side of the assembly. Some models, like the DC14, have a filter located here. If you see a latch, lift it to open the filter housing and remove the filter inside. Place the bin assembly aside for now.

    • 3

Squat down and observe the base of the vacuum. Check for a latch on the top of the base. Models such as the DC17 have a filter located here. Lift the latch to expose the filter inside the housing.

    • 4

Look for a pre-filter housing on the side of the base of the vacuum, like that found on the DC27. Press the release on the housing and detach the housing to expose the filter inside.

    • 5

Press the foot pedal at the rear of the vacuum to expose the filter housing release on the front of the ball. Only some models of Dyson, such as the DC25, feature Ball technology. Press the housing release and raise the housing to reveal the filter.
