DIY Natural Stove-Top Cleaner

Your stove top accumulates grease and food from spills and cooking, and in time changes from a spotless surface to a dull, greasy one. Chemical stove cleaners cut through grease and lift stains, but they can wear down the stove's surface when continuously used. A natural, nontoxic cleaner is an alternative solution to eliminating stains without harming the finish of the stove's surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the stove and wait for it to cool. Wipe off loose food particles with a damp paper towel or nonabrasive sponge.

    • 2

Lift the grates off the top of the stove, if not cleaning a smooth-top stove, and soak them in a sink filled with hot water and 1 tbsp. of dish-washing liquid soap.

    • 3

Wet the sponge with warm water. Sprinkle a thin layer of baking soda onto the sponge.

    • 4

Rub the sponge onto the stove-top's surface in a circular motion to remove grease and break up food particles.

    • 5

Rinse the sponge with hot water and squeeze out excess moisture.

    • 6

Wipe the stove top from back to front to remove baking soda. Rinse the sponge and continue wiping the stove top until the baking soda is gone.

    • 7

Wipe the stove top with a soft cleaning cloth to absorb remaining moisture.

    • 8

Remove the grates from the sink, if not cleaning a smooth top, and dry with the cleaning cloth. Set back in place on the stove top.
