How to Troubleshoot Kenmore Stylite Suction Problems

The Kenmore Stylite is a bagless vacuum cleaner with a transparent dirt container and a washable lifetime HEPA filter. It has a 12-amp motor and 15-inch wide cleaning path. The four-position height adjustment accommodates a wide variety of floor surfaces and the Pet Handi-Mate brush cleans staircases quickly. The advent of bagless technology and sealed, hard-shell dirt containers has simplified the troubleshooting procedure for suction problems in vacuums like the Stylite. For problems that do arise, the solutions are straightforward.

Instructions

Empty the dirt chamber if it is fully or nearly full. Take the opportunity to remove the foam filter from the bottom of the dirt chamber and the pleated lid filter from within the dirt chamber lid. Wash the foam filter under running water and then allow 24 hours to dry before reinstalling in the dirt chamber. Tap the pleated filter gently over a trash can to dislodge dust and dirt. Do not wash the pleated lid filter. Reinstall both filters and reinstall the dirt chamber.

Double-check the placement of the dirt chamber if suction efficiency is reduced. Make sure the bottom of the dirt chamber is placed behind the plastic rib on top of the motor housing.

Evaluate the condition of the brushroll. Replace if it appears worn. Turn the cleaner over, release the nozzle guard latches and remove the nozzle guard. Take the old brushroll out and install the new brushroll. It's a good time to replace the brushroll drive belt.

Make sure the cleaner is set to the proper height for the carpet surface being vacuumed. Rotate the height adjustment dial on the front deck clockwise to raise cleaner height and counter-clockwise to lower it.
