How to Clean a Whirlpool Calypso Washer

A Whirlpool Calypso washer is different from other top-loading washers because it doesn’t have an agitator. Instead, it features a wash plate at the bottom of the tub that lifts, bounces and rolls the laundry through the detergent and water. As with any other washer, the Calypso requires routine cleaning -- about once a month -- to remove detergent buildup and other grime from inside the machine.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the washer to the heavy-duty cycle and use the hot water setting. Add 1 cup white vinegar to the water as it’s filling up.

    • 2

Close the lid on the washer. Allow the machine to run through a complete wash cycle.

    • 3

Set the washer to the rinse and spin cycle. Allow it to run through the rinse and spin cycle to remove loosened grime and residue from the machine.

    • 4

Wipe out the tub of the washer with a dry rag after the cycle has finished. Be sure to wipe around the rim of the tub where dirt and grime often accumulate.
