How to Change a Bissell Vacuum Cleaner Filter

Filters form a critical part of your Bissell vacuum. A pre-motor filter guards the vacuum motor against harmful dirt particles. A post-motor HEPA filter helps recycle clean air to the room. Both filters accumulate dirt and dust through simple use. In time both require maintenance. Replacing your Bissell vacuum filters when needed helps keep your machine running vigorously and reduces the dust in the air in your home.

Instructions

  1. Pre-Motor Filter

    • 1

Look below the dirt container at the front of your vacuum. Directly below the container sits a tray comparable in shape in size to a coffee filter holder.

    • 2

Pinch the recessed sides of the tray and slide it out. Inside the tray sits the foam pre-motor filter. Reach inside the tray and remove the filter from your Bissell vacuum cleaner.

    • 3

Fit the replacement filter inside the tray. Slide the tray close.

    Post-Motor HEPA Filter

    • 4

Look for a rectangular-shaped door on the side or back of your Bissell vacuum.

    • 5

Push the tab down near the top of the door down and swing the door open. Inside the compartment resides the post-motor HEPA filter. Grasp the filter and remove it.

    • 6

Press the replacement filter into the compartment. Push the filter door close.
