How to Clean Burned-on Spots in a Self Cleaning Oven

A self-cleaning oven makes cleanup easy, but sometimes even the high heat isn’t enough to remove burned-on spots. Food spills and other grime that drip inside the oven can leave behind nasty stains. When this happens, it’s often necessary to use more than just the self-cleaning cycle to get the oven completely clean.

Instructions

    • 1

Chip off as much of the burnt grime from the oven with a metal spatula. Do this gently so not to scratch the oven.

    • 2

Mix 3 tbsp. baking soda and 1 tbsp. hot water in a bowl to make a thick paste. Mix equal parts vinegar and hot water in a clean spray bottle.

    • 3

Spread the baking soda paste onto the burnt spots with a damp rag. Spray the spots with the vinegar solution.

    • 4

Let the cleaning mixture sit on the spots for 10 minutes. Scrub with a nylon scrubber to remove the stains.

    • 5

Rinse the area well with a rag and clean water to remove any residue. Dry thoroughly with a clean rag.

    • 6

Saturate any remaining spots with household ammonia. Wait five minutes, then cover the spot with baking soda. Add a few drops of vinegar and wait another five minutes. Scrub with a sponge to remove the stains. Wipe up the residue with a damp rag.

Run a self-cleaning cycle on your oven. After the cycle is finished and the oven cools, wipe out the white ash from inside the oven with a damp rag.
