How to Clean Baked-On Stains on a Woodstove

Woodstoves provide heat and comfort to any room or area of your home. The stove contains a flat top surface that lets you cook a meal without having to use your kitchen’s stove. And like the stove in your kitchen, a woodstove’s top surface is susceptible to food spills, dirt and debris. If left on the stove, the debris becomes baked-on and can stain the stove’s surface. Use a nonabrasive cleaner to remove baked-on stains and restore your woodstove’s surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any pots or pans from the woodstove’s top surface. Wet a sponge with warm water and wring out excess water. Wipe the surface with the wet sponge to remove any loose dust and dirt.

    • 2

Rinse the sponge under warm water. Apply 1 tablespoon of a nonabrasive cleaner to the sponge. Scrub any baked-on stains and debris with the cleaner-soaked sponge.

    • 3

Rinse the sponge again under warm water to remove any debris from it. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until the woodstove’s top surface is clean.

    • 4

Wet a soft cloth or rag with warm water and wring out excess. Wipe the surface to remove any cleaner residue. Dry it with a clean, soft cloth or rag.

Apply 1 tablespoon of cooking oil to a soft flannel cloth. Wipe the entire top surface with the oil-soaked cloth to season the surface. Fold the cloth in half and wipe the surface again to remove any excess oil.
