Remove the oven racks and broiler pans from your oven. Fill your kitchen sink with hot water and dish detergent. Scrub the racks and pans with soapy water and an abrasive scouring pad to remove curry remnants that might have spilled while cooking.
Spray an oven cleaner that contains a degreasing agent throughout the interior of the oven, coating the sides, door and bottom. Cleaners with degreasers penetrate curry that is burnt or caked onto surfaces. Allow the oven cleaner to set into the surfaces, based on the manufacturer’s directions. This can take up to 24 hours. Wipe the cleaner off with a cloth or sponge to remove odorous food remnants.
Pour 2 tablespoons of baking soda into a spray bottle and add 1 cup of water. Shake the bottle to combine the contents. Spray the inside of the oven with the mixture and wipe the oven surfaces with a damp sponge. Baking soda absorbs and neutralizes odors.
Place the rack and broiler pans back in the oven. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Pour activated charcoal particles on the foil and place the pan in your oven. Close the oven door and refrain from using the oven until the curry scent is undetectable. This can take up to 10 days. Pour baking soda in a bowl. Leave the bowl near the oven such as on the stovetop or on a countertop to absorb curry odors. The high porosity of activated charcoal and baking soda enables both substances eliminate odors.
