How to Clean a GE Profile Microwave Plate

GE Profile microwaves are built for countertop placement and use. GE profile microwaves are equipped, as are most modern microwaves, with rotating turntable plates. These plates aid in even cooking and heat distribution by constantly turning the food items placed atop them. Cleaning the interior of your microwave is a chore recommended for after each use. Cleaning your GE Profile microwave turntable plate requires only some basic cleaning supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Allow your GE Profile microwave turntable plate to cool completely before cleaning it. The turntable plate can become very hot during the cooking process, whether you are using the microwave or convection functions. If the plate is hot upon removal, it can burn you. It can also crack when placed in cool water.

    • 2

Place your dirty turntable plate into the sink. Use warm water, dish soap and a sponge to gently clean the surface of the plate. Place the turntable support piece into the sink and wash it in the same manner. Both elements of the turntable assembly become soiled during normal microwave use.

    • 3

Place your turntable plate and support into the dishwasher. Wash the two items with the rest of your dishes and cookware on a regular cycle. Neither will be damaged by the process.

    • 4

Place your turntable plate and support in their normal position inside the microwave. Place 1 cup of water into a microwaveable bowl. Cut one lemon, lime or orange into small pieces and place into the water. If you do not have any citrus fruit, 1/2 cup of white distilled vinegar can be used.

    • 5

Place the mixture on top of the turntable plate, then turn the microwave on at high heat for several minutes. Allow the mixture to heat until the entire interior of the microwave is covered with steam. Stop the microwave and allow it to cool for up to 15 minutes. When sufficiently cool, open the door and use your clean rag to wipe away any grease or cooking residue from all surfaces including your turntable plate.
