How to Clean a Rice Cooker Pot

There are many ways to get a rice cooker messy, and these methods and foods create a gummy or crusty residue that must be washed away relatively fast. However, most rice cookers have removable inserts that make cleaning less of a challenge. Clean your rice cooker pot with care to prevent scratches and dings.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the rice cooker from the electrical outlet, and allow the appliance to cool to room temperature.

    • 2

Remove the insert in which the rice was cooked. Scrape out any remaining food particles with a spatula.

    • 3

Wash the insert by immersing it into a sink filled with hot, soapy water. Use a nonabrasive pad or a dishcloth to clean the insert. If the lid to the rice cooker is attached to the insert, wash it as well at this time.

    • 4

Rinse the insert, and place it in a dish rack or on a dish towel to drain.

    • 5

Wash the lid of the rice cooker if it is not attached to the insert, rinse, and then place to drain.

    • 6

Wash any other parts that come with your cooker. Some models have condensation catchers, steam trays or other parts that also have to be cleaned. Consult your owner's manual for any special instructions.

    • 7

Wipe down the inside of the rice cooker with a dishcloth. Rinse the dishcloth with water, wring out the excess liquid, and then wipe away any remaining soap inside.

    • 8

Repeat on the outside of the appliance. Dry the surface, or leave it to air-dry.

    • 9

Place the dry insert back into the well of the rice cooker, and cover it with the lid.
