Removing Stains on Ceramic Cooktops Caused by Stainless Steel

A flat ceramic glass cooktop looks more like counter space than a stove top due to hidden burners under the ceramic top. The smooth surface is easier to clean than traditional stove tops since it has no burners to take apart. However, aluminum and copper pans often leave marks and residue on the countertop after cooking. While stainless steel pans normally don’t streak or stain the surface of a ceramic countertop, if one does, wait for the cooktop to cool before cleaning and clean before you use the appliance again.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a cleaning paste by mixing one part water to three parts baking soda.

    • 2

Apply the cleaning paste to the stain after the cooktop is cool. Most ceramic cooktops have a heat light indicator, which remains on after your turn off the stove. Wait for this light to turn off before you apply the cleaning paste.

    • 3

Scrub the cleaning paste over the stain, using a paper towel or soft rag.

    • 4

Wipe off the paste with a wet rag. Always use a clean rag to avoid leaving residue on the cooktop, which can discolor when the cooktop heats up. Remove all traces of the cleaning paste.

    • 5

Dry the area with a clean dishtowel or paper towel.
