How to Clean a Stainless Steel Sink With a Two-toned Look

No matter the amount of tones a stainless steel sink produces when the light hits it, using products that clean and protect the surface preserves its color, quality and luster. Stainless steel retains sheen with its polished finished and can endure exposure to water and food without corroding or spotting, making it ideal for sink surfaces. While a stainless steel sink is simple to maintain, it can scratch easily, if using abrasive cleaners and scrubbers or cleaning against the grain of the steel. You can clean and shine the ledge, sides, bottom and drain hole of your stainless steel sink on a daily and weekly basis.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean your stainless steel sink with dish detergent and hot water daily. Rub the soapy solution in the direction of the grain with a nonabrasive soft sponge or towel to remove food remnants and soap build up. Refrain from using abrasive scrub brushes or steel wool, as they can scratch and mar the stainless steel finish. Rinse the sink with water and dry with a soft towel.

Spray a nonabrasive and antibacterial household cleaner or stainless steel cleaner on the sink surfaces three to four times a week to remove germs and soap scum. Do not use a cleaner with bleach or chloride because such ingredients can corrode and discolor stainless steel sinks. Scrub the cleaner in the direction of the grain with a soft, nonabrasive sponge or cloth. Rinse and dry the sink.

Dry the sink with a soft towel, if wet. Pour stainless steel polish or conditioner on a soft sponge or cloth, and rub it onto the sink surfaces in the direction of the grain to create sheen and to buff out scratches. Repeat this process weekly.
