A high-efficiency washing machine is so called in part because it manipulates the clothes in a smaller amount of water than a traditional washing machine requires. High-efficiency washers also use less detergent. In fact, you need only about 1 tbsp. of detergent for each load to clean your laundry in a high-efficiency washing machine. Nevertheless, as in all washing machines, buildup can occur in a high-efficiency washer. In order to remove the buildup you can use vinegar, which will cut through any hard water stains and soap scum.
