How to Install a Belt for a Hoover WindTunnel Sweeper

When you pass your Hoover WindTunnel vacuum cleaner across a length of carpet, the appliance pulls dirt, dust and debris into into the filter bag relying on two forces: the motor's vacuum suction and the spinning action of the vacuum's brush roller. A belt connected to the roller spindle and a motor pulley drives the roller. If the belt breaks or stretches, the brush roller will cease to rotate properly. Replacing the stretched or broken belt is the only way to ensure that the brush roller spins properly, allowing you to use the vacuum most effectively.

Instructions

  1. Belt Removal

    • 1

Step on the handle release lever, located on the side of the back of the vacuum. Lower the handle down to the ground.

    • 2

Turn the Hoover WindTunnel over, exposing the underside of the cleaner head.

    • 3

Locate the screw at each corner of the cleaner head plate. This plate protects the brush roller and its belt.

    • 4

Remove the four screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Place the screws in a bowl or cup to prevent losing them.

    • 5

Lift the plate gently away from the cleaner head. Grab both sides of the brush roller and pull it away from the cleaner head.

    • 6

Slide the belt from the side of the brush roller and place the brush roller aside. Slide the other end of the belt off the motor pulley.

    Belt Installation

    • 7

Observe the lettering on the replacement belt. Turn the belt outside-in if necessary to position the lettering on the outside.

    • 8

Slide the belt on the motor pulley. Loop the brush roller through the belt and position the belt around the smooth belt guide near the end of the brush roller.

    • 9

Position the end of the brush roller farthest from the belt into the slot in the cleaner head. Pull the brush roller away from the slot to lock the other end in place.

    • 10

Fit the plate back onto the cleaner head. Thread the screws by hand one at a time into the plate until they're hand-tight, then tighten the screws with the Phillips screwdriver.
