How to Clean Burnt Sugar Off an Electric Stove

Boiling sugary mixtures, such as candy recipes, over high heat may cause them to bubble up and boil over onto electric stove surfaces. Burnt sugar quickly dries onto electric stove tops and bonds to their smooth surfaces. The longer burnt sugar sets on an electric stove, the harder the brittle granules become to remove. Besides appearing unattractive, burnt sugar particles attract insects, which are unsanitary around stoves. Promptly clean burnt sugar off an electric stove before the gritty grime becomes a stubborn stain.

Instructions

    • 1

Attempt to scrape off the burnt sugar using a wooden spoon. Detach as much burnt sugar from the stove as possible.

    • 2

Wet a dishcloth with warm water. Sprinkle a nonabrasive cleaning powder, such as baking soda, onto the wet cloth.

    • 3

Scrub the remaining burnt sugar particles vigorously with the wet baking soda. Again, remove as much as possible.

    • 4

Douse any stubborn sugar grime with cooktop cleaner. Moisten a paper towel with water, then cover the saturated sugar grime with the paper towel. Let the moistened paper towel and sugar residue stand for 30 minutes.

    • 5

Remove the paper towel. Saturate a nonabrasive mesh scrubber with water, then scrub the remaining sugar residue until all granules loosen from the stove.

    • 6

Saturate another dishcloth with warm water. Wipe the baking soda, cleaner and loosened sugar particles off the electric stove’s surface.

    • 7

Dry the electric stove with a dishtowel.
