How to Clean Grease Off of Microwave Vents

Microwave ovens make cooking and reheating foods a fast process. Part of the way a microwave oven works is by exhausting hot air through vents on the oven. Sometimes grease or other liquid particles blow through the vents with the air. When this happens, the grease can catch on the vents and cause them to get dirty or clog. If you make cleaning the vents part of your regular oven cleaning routine, they will stay free of clogs and the oven will perform the way it should.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe away any surface grease and dirt from the vents with a dry, clean cloth. The dirt and grease may smear a bit, but it will be removed later.

    • 2

Fill the spray bottle with white vinegar. Vinegar is a natural grease-cutting agent and is safe for most surfaces.

    • 3

Dampen a clean cloth with warm water. Spray vinegar onto the cloth until it is fully saturated. Wring out excess vinegar into the sink.

    • 4

Wipe away surface grease and dirt from the vents. Using an edge of the cloth, clean in between the slats of the vents. Do this until the vents are clean.

    • 5

Rinse away any vinegar residue from the microwave with a clean cloth dampened with warm water.
