Replacing the Belt in a Shark Pet Vac

Pet owners are all familiar with the constant maintenance required to keep pet hair and debris cleared away. Certain vacuum manufacturers, such as Shark, design vacuum cleaners especially for picking up pet hair and messes. However, your Shark pet vacuum will not run properly if the belt breaks or becomes damaged. This often occurs over time or very quickly when vacuums are used frequently. With the proper tools and parts, you can replace the belt of the Shark pet vacuum even if you have little home repair experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the vacuum, then unplug the vacuum from the electrical outlet to prevent injuries and accidents due to electric shock.

    • 2

Press the foot pedal release to relax the vacuum into a lying-down position. Flip the vacuum upside down, and place it flat on an even surface such as the floor, a tabletop or a counter.

    • 3

Remove the screws attaching the plates to the underside of the vacuum, using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the plates and set them aside.

    • 4

Flip the unit right side up, leaving it in a lying-down position even when it is right side up. Carefully remove the power head cover, starting the removal with the back of the power head.

    • 5

Flip the unit upside down again, removing the belt cover located near the brush bar. Remove the brush bar.

    • 6

Remove the damaged belt. Hook the new belt over the motor shaft and through the agitator pulley.

    • 7

Replace the brush bar, slipping each end of the bar into the appropriate side for that end. Push the brush bar, turning it by hand, to fully reseat the new belt.

    • 8

Replace the belt cover, power head cover, and plates on the vacuum before using.
