# How to Activate the Hose on a Bissell Steam Cleaner
Bissell carpet cleaners, sometimes referred to as steam cleaners, have attachments to clean upholstery, curtains and scrub heavily soiled areas on carpets. Most Bissell units come with a hose and one attachment for the hose. The hose and attachment must be activated to perform these tasks.

Remove the hose cleaning tool attachment from the storage area on the back of the unit. Attach the cleaning tool to the hose.

Select the “Custom Clean” setting to your desired cleaning amount. On all Bissell models, the “Custom Clean” dial is located behind the water tank or on the upper handle.

Turn the “Ready Tools” dial to “tools”. The dial is located on the base of the unit, above the water tank.

Activate the unit by pressing the power switch located on the front of the unit. Turn on the heat power switch if you desire the water and cleaning solution to be heated. Press the trigger on the cleaning attachment to release the cleaning solution onto the area you want to clean.
