Turn the gas to the stove off before you start working on removing the plastic. Most gas ovens have a gas valve located behind the stove. Gently pull the stove out and grasp the valve on the gas line. Turn the valve counterclockwise until the valve is perpendicular with the floor.
Open the stove door and pull out the rack. Set the rack on a countertop or table.
Fill a plastic bag with ice. Rub the plastic bag across the the plastic build up on the rack in short, quick motions. The ice will freeze the plastic, making it easier to remove.
Use a plastic spatula or wooden spoon to gently pry the plastic off the rack. Wash the rack with an oven cleaner or a mixture of soap and warm water to remove any residue from the plastic. Set the rack aside. Repeat with the second and third rack.
Locate the two screws on the back of the stove holding the base plate in place. These screws are located toward the bottom of the stove. Unscrew the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Set the screws aside.
Gently pull the base plate out of the stove. Grasp the base plate in both hands and pull toward you to remove the plate. Set the base plate on a countertop or table.
Apply the bag of ice directly to any plastic on the base plate. Move the bag across the plastic in quick motions until the plastic hardens. Use the spatula or wooden spoon to pry the plastic off of the base plate.
Clean the base plate using an oven cleaner or soap and hot water. Dry the base plate with a clean cloth.
Clean the side walls of the stove with an oven cleaner, following the manufacturer's directions.
Grasp the base plate in both hands and gently push the piece back into place on the bottom of your stove. Use the Phillips screwdriver to screw the two securing screws in place on the back of the stove. Slide the racks back into position inside the stove.
Turn the gas to the stove on by turning the valve clockwise until the valve is parallel with the floor. Push the stove back into place, being careful not to pinch or damage the gas line.
