How to Clean an Aluminum-Clad Pan

Aluminum pans are durable, frugal choice for everyday cooking at home. But depending on how often you cook, your aluminum pans could develop a dingy, tarnished look if you use them frequently. Keep your aluminum pans shiny and clean between cooking sessions. It won't make your food taste better, but you'll be able to relax knowing you got your pans sparkling clean with products that are safe for you and your family.

Things You'll Need

  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Nonabrasive sponge
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons cream of tartar

Instructions

      Soak the pan in hot, soapy water for 1 hour. This will loosen any food particles that have been baked on the bottom of the pan.

      Use a nonabrasive sponge with a drop of dishwashing liquid to scrub away surface stains.

      Add 2 teaspoons vinegar to 2 cups of warm water in the pan. Boil the mixture for 5 minutes to remove discoloration caused by cooking acidic foods, such as tomato sauce. Run the pan under cold water to rinse away the solution.

      Place a mixture of 2 tablespoons of cream of tarter and 1 quart of water in the pan to remove tarnish from it. Boil the mixture in the pan for 10 minutes, then rinse with cold water.

      Remove burned milk stains with a layer of table salt. Pour salt over the stain, then let the pan sit for 10 minutes. Rub the stain carefully with a nonabrasive sponge, then rinse the pan with cold water.
