How to Clean Smudge Marks on Stainless Steel Appliances

Stainless steel adds a modern look to kitchens. It is used for toasters, coffee makers, ovens, refrigerators and other appliances. While stainless steel is easy to clean, all it takes is a touch of a hand to leave smudges. These smudges show up easily on the shiny metal surfaces, detracting from the beauty of the appliance. Common and inexpensive products help remove smudges and bring back the shine.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a pair of rubber gloves and unplug the appliance. Soak a soft cloth with either white vinegar or club soda.

    • 2

Rub the wet cloth over the smudged areas. If the appliance has a brushed finish, wipe the cloth with the grain. If the appliance has a high-polished surface, usually called a mirror-finish, wipe the cloth over the smudged area using a small circular motion.

    • 3

Buff the appliance dry with a soft, dry cloth.
