Belt Used for the Hoover Turbo 6000

The Hoover Turbo 6000 is an older model Hoover vacuum cleaner that uses a bag, rather than a container, as the receptacle for dirt that is removed. The newer model of the Turbo is the bagless WindTunnel. The belts for the Turbo 6000 are available from a variety of sources because many of these vacuums are still in use at the time of this publication.
  1. Hoover

    • Hoover is one of few vacuum manufacturers that uses two belts to operate the brush roll. Even its newer models have two belts, unlike many other vacuum manufacturers. The belts connect two pulleys and the brush roll.

    Belts

    • One of the belts connects the brush roll to the non-motor pulley. Part manufacturers often refer to this system as the agitator belt. This belt spins the brush roll to pick up dirt and debris from floor surfaces. The other belt connects the motor pulley to the non-motor pulley. The non-motor pulley has an area to connect each belt. When the belts are replaced, the belts spin simultaneously to operate the brush roll from the motor.

    How to Find Replacement Belts

    • Because this is an older model vacuum, contact Hoover’s customer service to find a location that sells the belt. Many Hoover retail stores and vacuum repair stores order parts for customers. Replacing the belts only takes a few minutes. To save money, replace the belts at home.

    Replacing the Belts

    • To replace the belts, turn off the vacuum and unplug it from the wall. Lay the vacuum on the floor with the base of the vacuum facing up, exposing the brush roll and the base plate. Remove the base plate screws with a screwdriver. After the base plate is removed, the belts, motor pulley, non-motor pulley and brush roll are exposed. Connect the agitator belt by lifting the brush roll out and wrapping the belt around the brush roll. Replace the brush roll and connect the other end of the agitator belt to the non-motor pulley. Slide one end of the motor pulley belt onto the motor pulley and the other end onto the non-motor pulley. With the belts attached, put the brush roller back into its housing. Use your hands to roll the brush roll back and forth to determine whether the belts and motor pulley spin properly. Replace the base plate by using a screwdriver to attach the screws.
