Plug your kitchen sink, and add several drops of dish detergent. Run hot water over the soap so that it agitates the soap and creates bubbles. This helps spread the soap through the water.
Take off the removable parts of your stove top, such as knobs, burners and grates, and place them in the sink with the warm soapy water. Removing these parts will make it easier to work on the stove top.
Squirt the rough scrubbing side of a cleaning sponge with dish detergent, and dip the sponge into the sink to wet the sponge.
Scrub the entire surface of the stove with the sponge, using firm pressure to break up greasy spots. Spread the water and bubbles that are released from the sponge to other areas on the stove surface to clean the entire stove top.
Rinse the cleaning sponge with water from the faucet, squeeze, and wipe down the stove top. Repeat, as needed, until all the soap is removed.
Inspect the stove top carefully for grease spots, and spot clean with the sponge and soapy water.
Dry the stove top completely with a clean kitchen towel. Ensure that there are no water or soap streaks remaining on the surface or small pools of water in the corners of the stove.
Drain the sink and scrub the removable pieces with the cleaning sponge, rinse with warm water, and dry with the kitchen towel before installing them back on the stove.
