How to Remove the Roller on a Kirby

Your Kirby vacuum uses a roller to gather dirt and dust from surfaces. A belt hidden inside the vacuum nozzle surrounds the roller, causing it to spin when activated. Preventative maintenance for your Kirby vacuum includes examining the roller and its belt regularly. Replacing the belt or effectively cleaning the roller of debris requires first removing the roller from the nozzle.

Instructions

    • 1

Raise the headlight cover at the front of your Kirby vacuum to reveal the belt lift dial. The dial raises and lowers the belt and brush roll.

    • 2

Turn the latch above the belt lift dial to the left, and detach the nozzle from your Kirby vacuum.

    • 3

Lift the latch on the belt lift dial and rotate the dial clockwise until the green arrow on the dial aligns with the green arrow directly above the dial.

    • 4

Place the nozzle face down to reveal the backside. A pair of latches on the backside fasten the brush roll cover plate to the nozzle.

    • 5

Give each latch a one-quarter turn to the left. Detach the loosened plate from the underside of the nozzle to reveal the brush roll.

    • 6

Grab one end of the brush roll. Pull upward on the roll to detach it from the nozzle.
