My Eureka Canister Vacuum Is Making Noise

Eureka manufactures a variety of vacuum cleaners and other products. The line of vacuums includes lightweight, upright and canister vacuums. Eureka’s canister vacuums have a canister on wheels attached to a hose and wand, unlike an upright vacuum. The wand has multiple attachments to provide a variety of cleaning attachments for different floor types, upholstery and fabrics. Noises from the vacuum can be caused from a variety of areas.
  1. Finding the Noise

    • Because the motor and filters are on the canister and the brush roll is on the wand, the noise is easily located. With the power nozzle attached to the wand, turn on the machine and listen closely to the canister and the power nozzle. Turn off the vacuum after you locate the noise.

    Canister

    • If the filters or dust canister are clogged or full, it can create the motor to work harder and cause noise. The Eureka canister vacuum’s dust container and filters are in the canister. Remove the dust container by pushing the button on the handle and lifting it out. Remove all of the filters inside the canister, which includes the cartridge filter, filter screen and motor filter. Rinse the filters and filter screen with cold water to remove dust and debris, and allow them to dry. The exhauster filter on the back of the canister can not be cleaned and should be replaced. The exhaust filter is available at retailers that sell Eureka canister vacuums. Reassemble the filters and dust container after everything is dry.

    Power Wand

    • The brush roll on the power wand can be obstructed with string, hair debris and other objects. Small objects such as a rubber band can cause very loud noises when the Eureka is running. To check for obstructions around the brush roll, remove the screws from the base plate at the bottom of the power wand. Cut any strings, hair or other debris from the brush roll. Manually roll the brush roll back and forth to ensure the belt is secured and not slipping. Replace the base plate and put the screws back in tightly using a screw driver.

    Warranty and Maintenance

    • Eureka offers a one-year limited warranty for its vacuums. The warranty does not cover standard parts and maintenance such as filters, replacing belts or any damages caused by negligence. Performing routine maintenance on the machine monthly will help the machine operate properly and extend its life. If the Eureka canister vacuum makes noise after performing standard maintenance and removing obstructions, review your warranty and contact Eureka’s customer service center or an authorized dealer. Standard maintenance often stops noises from the machine and allow it to run like new.
