How to Hang Draperies on a Bay Window

A bay window is a composite of three windows and has a large center window that is flanked by two units that are at 45- or 90-degree angles. These windows provide a flood of sunlight to the room, improving the appearance of the room that it is located in. These windows should be dressed properly with draperies to complement the warm atmosphere that the windows exude.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the dimensions of the bay window to properly fit your draperies. Measure each of the three panels that comprise the bay window. Write the measurements down on a piece of paper.

    • 2

Purchase draperies that will fit on the bay window given the measurements. One drape should hang on each adjustable rod for each window panel. Choose draperies that complement the decor of the room.

    • 3

Purchase a bay rod kit prior to hanging the draperies that match your measurements. Bay rods are special adjustable rods that curve to contour the window, unlike traditional straight adjustable rods. They are divided into three sections with each covering one panel of the bay window.

Install the bay rod brackets by measuring 4 inches above the center window and screwing a hole. Screw in the rod support and complete for the other windows.

    • 5

Place the drapes on the bay rods. Adjust the draperies so that they hang evenly on the rods.
