How to Get White Plastic on Kitchen Appliances White Again After Turning Yellow With Age

White plastic kitchen appliances give the room a pristine and tidy appearance when new, but the plastic often begins to yellow over time. This is a normal reaction to things in the environment, such as light, dirt and even cigarette smoke. Since it's not practical to soak kitchen appliances in water, other measures must be taken. These involve using products that eliminate the buildup and restore the appliances to their original bright white shade.

Bucket
Bleach
Baking soda
Plastic spoon
Sponge
Absorbent towel
Non-abrasive powdered cleanser
Dish detergent

Instructions

  Fill a bucket with 4 cups warm water, 1/2 cup bleach and 1/4 cup baking soda.

  Mix the solution thoroughly with a plastic spoon to dissolve the baking soda.

  Dip a sponge into the solution and hold it there until it feels soggy. Squeeze out excess water, leaving the sponge very damp but not dripping.

  Apply the solution to the exterior of the kitchen appliances. Allow it to remain in place for approximately 10 minutes.

  Rinse the sponge thoroughly and wipe the appliances down until all of the bleach and baking soda solution has been removed. Dry with an absorbent towel.

  Moisten a sponge with water if any of the yellow color remains.

  Pour 1 teaspoon of powdered non-abrasive cleanser onto the sponge.

  Scour the appliances, using steady pressure and a circular motion.

  Wash the exterior of the appliances with a sponge dipped in warm water and dish detergent.

  Rinse the sponge again and wipe over the appliances until all of the soap has been removed. Use an absorbent towel to dry the water from the appliance.
