How to Remove Inscriptions on Stainless Steel

Stainless steel cookware is affordable, durable, grease-resistant and easy to clean. Many also install stainless steel sinks in their kitchens. In some cases, refrigerator doors are made of stainless steel. Although it's easy to maintain, stainless steel kitchenware is susceptible to deep scratches, and it may have engraved inscriptions carved for identification purposes. You can use some basic domestic remedies to remove unwanted inscriptions or scratches.

Brush the inscription with sand paper in one direction only -- don't sand back and forth. A nonmetallic, abrasive pad may also remove lighter inscriptions or scratches.

Use commercial products such as Scratch-B-Gone. Such stainless steel restoration products include a chemical solution that can help remove deeper inscriptions or scratches. Apply the product according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Apply chrome polish to cover blemishes and renew the shine on stainless steel.
