Can You Replace the Power Cord on a Dyson Vacuum Cleaner?

Dyson manufactures vacuums and other commercial and home appliances. Dyson vacuums use dual cyclone technology, which doesn’t lose suction. If the power cord is damaged, it can be replaced. Several options to replace it should be considered, depending on the machine's age and whether its warranty is valid or expired.
  1. Warranty

    • Dyson offers a five-year limited warranty for its vacuums. If it is less than five years old and the product registry was completed, contact the company's helpline to repair the power cord. Send the vacuum to Dyson for repairs or take it to one of its authorized dealers. Repairs and services are done at no cost if the vacuum was not misused or neglected.

    DIY or Professional

    • If the vacuum is no longer covered under warranty or if the cord is damaged due to circumstances that void it, you may decide to take it to a repair shop or do the repairs yourself. If you take it to a shop, you’ll receive an estimated cost for the repairs. The power cord is available through some retailers that sell vacuum parts. Dyson does not sell the power cord.

    DIY Basics

    • If you decide to replace the power cord, purchase the correct one for your model. Turn off the machine and unplug it from the outlet. Remove the dust container. Unscrew the switch case housing and remove it from the machine. The switch case is behind the dust container’s casing. Disconnect the power cord from the cable spades. Unlatch the wand and the hose cuff. Pull the cord from the switch housing and remove it from the grooves that hold the power cord in place from the back of the vacuum. Remove the old power cord. Place the new one on the vacuum in the grooves and through the hole to the switch cable housing. Attach the cord to the cable spades. Reassemble the vacuum and turn it on to ensure the cord is installed properly.

    Maintenance

    • To avoid damages to the vacuum and its parts, routinely perform standard maintenance. After using it, properly stow the power cord by laying it flat on the floor and removing any kinks. Wind it on the hooks that hold the cord. Empty the dust bin and rinse it with water if it becomes dusty. Wipe the shroud that attaches to the dust bin with a dry rag to remove dust and debris. Use scissors to cut string and other obstructions from the brush roll. Submerge the blue foam pad and case from the bottom of the machine in cold water and allow them to dry for 12 hours. Maintaining the vacuum will extend its life.
