My Dyson Has Leaking Dust Gaskets

Dyson manufactures home and commercial appliances such as vacuums, fans, heaters and commercial hand dryers. The Dyson line of vacuums uses cyclones to collect dirt into a dirt container without losing suction. If the vacuum’s dust gaskets are leaking, the vacuum loses suction and several steps can be taken to repair the leaks.
  1. The Leak

    • Leaking dust gaskets can have several causes. If the dust gaskets are visibly damaged, the vacuum can be fixed. If no visible damage is on the dust gaskets, disassemble the dust container and shroud. Empty the dust container and reassemble the shroud and dust container security in the machine. If the machine isn’t assembled properly, the gaskets will leak and the vacuum loses suction.

    Warranty

    • All Dyson vacuums come with a five-year limited warranty. If the vacuum is less than five years old, an authorized Dyson dealer will repair the vacuum at no cost. Dyson requires that you call the helpline, fill out the product registration information and have the receipt proving purchase. Dyson then finds an authorized Dyson dealer where you can take the vacuum for repairs. Repairs covered under the warranty include parts and services required to repair the leaking dust gaskets.

    Voided Warranty

    • The warranty is limited to workmanship and malfunctioning parts. If recommended standard maintenance is not performed on the vacuum or it's more than five years old, Dyson won’t repair the vacuum for free. The vacuum can be repaired at any vacuum repair store for a fee.

    Maintenance

    • To avoid further damage to the dust gaskets, standard maintenance should be performed on the vacuum routinely, depending on how often the vacuum is used. Dyson recommends emptying the dust container after each use and rinsing the dust container routinely to remove dust particles and debris. Allow the dust container to dry completely before you replace it on the vacuum. Wipe the shroud with a dry, clean cloth to remove excess dust. Wash the filter and its casing routinely. The filter can be submerged in cold water and rinsed thoroughly. Allow the filter and casing to dry at least 12 hours before replacing it.
