How to Fix a Leak on a Vacuum Cover

A vacuum cleaner has a detachable cover that stores the bag. On bagless vacuums, the dust collection unit covers the vacuum. If the cover is leaking from a crack or hole, the vacuum loses suction. Vacuum manufacturers don’t offer replacement covers. Fix the leak using a few household items.

Things You'll Need

  • Duct or electrical tape

Instructions

Remove the cover from the vacuum. Use a dampened rag and wipe the dust and debris off the cover’s inside and outside. Let it dry. On a bagless vacuum, removing the dust container and rinsing it with warm water removes dust and debris. Let the dust container dry.

Find the leak on the cover. Once the leak is located, cut a piece of duct or electrical tape large enough that covers the entire leak.

    • 3

Press the tape firmly on the leak. Rubbing the tape with your finger ensures the leak is completely sealed.

Place the cover back on the vacuum. Turn the vacuum on and vacuum an area to test the vacuum. The suction increases with the leak blocked.
